The solution to the Windows Update error code 0x80004005 caused by various causes, such as when the CBS file is damaged during the Windows update process, is explained below.
Step 1: Run the Windows Update troubleshooter
1. Enter the address below into the Internet address bar and press Enter. Then download the troubleshooter file.

2. Install the downloaded WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab file.
3. Select [Next] on the Windows Update screen.
4. Select [Run Windows 10 Windows Update Troubleshooter].
5. Select [Next] at the bottom of the [Resolve a problem that prevents Windows from updating] screen.
6. When error detection, diagnosis, and registry checks are completed, “Troubleshooting has been completed.” is output. Now select [Close]. If the Windows 10 update error code 0x80004005 cannot be fixed even after following this method, execute the following method.
Step 2: Run DISM
1. Select [Windows Search Icon] next to the Windows Start menu.
2. Enter 'command prompt' in the search box. And among the menus shown above, there is a [Command Prompt] menu. Right-click on it and click [Run as administrator].
3. At the command prompt screen, type the following commands one by one and press the Enter key.
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
4. Run Windows Update again. If Windows error code 0x80004005 is not corrected even after performing this method, try the following method.
Step 3: Delete the update temporary folder
1. Delete the Download folder under C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.
2. Select [Windows Search Icon] next to the Windows Start menu.
3. Type 'settings' in the search box and hit the ENT key.
4. Select [Update & Security].
5. On the right, select [Check for Updates].
Windows Update error code 0x80004005, which occurs due to a corruption of the CBS manifest file or an error in the update temporary folder, is mostly resolved by completing the 3 steps mentioned above.
